We believe that Hungarian Knives are among the best and most reliable in the world! Why is that? Let´s have a look at the Hungarian History….

Hungarians (Magyarok) originally a tribe of nomads and horseback riders entered Europe more than 1000 years ago. They quickly made their name as fearless horseback archers and took over the area of the Carpathians basin, now more or less Hungary. Although the takeover was everything but nonviolent the Hungarians made peace with Europe’s surrounding tribes, but never forgot their origins. They were masters of horseback archery and knife making and weapons and tools were always in the center of their lives.

Up until today the men of the Hungarian Puszta spend the income of several month´s work to own one of the master pieces of the old Hungarian knife makers. Because for those men - the shepherds, woodsmen, cowboys and hunters - the knife in their hands needs to be the most reliable companion and is nothing less than the live insurance for their daily work in the rough circumstance of the Carpathians basin. A knife that usually stays within the family for generations. From the father to the son, to the grandson….

All knives at Porta-Hungariae are exactly following the old traditions and spirits of original Hungarian knife making and are built to last for generations.
